Complete Roofing
Guide for Metro Detroit
Everything you need to know about roof replacement, repair, and installation in Southeast Michigan. From asphalt shingles to EPDM rubber roofing, we’ll help you protect your home.
Michigan Weather is Tough on Roofs
Is your home’s roof looking tired after another harsh Michigan winter? You know the signs – missing shingles after windstorms, ice dams that caused damage, or maybe you’re just tired of worrying every time severe weather hits.
Michigan homeowners face unique roofing challenges. Freezing and thawing cycles that crack shingles, ice that backs up under edges, summer storms that rip off materials, and snow loads that test every fastener. Your roof isn’t just a covering – it’s your first line of defense.
⚠️ Don’t Wait on Roof Problems
Small roof issues become expensive structural problems fast. A few missing shingles can lead to water damage, mold, and thousands in repairs. Michigan weather doesn’t give you time to procrastinate.

Signs You Need a New Roof
🏠 Age of Your Roof
Most asphalt shingles last 20-25 years in Michigan’s climate. If your roof is approaching this age, it’s time to start planning for replacement.
💧 Interior Water Damage
Water stains on ceilings, walls, or in your attic are clear signs of roof problems. Don’t ignore these – they only get worse.
🧊 Ice Dam Problems
Repeated ice dams indicate ventilation or insulation issues. These can cause serious damage if not addressed properly.
🌪️ Storm Damage
Missing shingles, granule loss, or visible damage after storms. Many homeowners don’t realize their insurance may cover this.
💰 Rising Energy Bills
Poor roof insulation or ventilation can significantly impact your heating and cooling costs.
🔧 Frequent Repairs
If you’re constantly fixing roof problems, replacement is often more cost-effective than ongoing repairs.

Our Residential Asphalt Roofing Process
1
Complete Tearoff
We completely tear off existing shingles and underlayment to reveal the wood decking underneath. Our Equipter motorized dumpster and F-550 dump truck handle debris – often no driveway dumpster needed.
2
Deck Inspection & Repair
Decking is fully inspected for rot or damage. All rotten or damaged wood is replaced to ensure a solid foundation for your new roof.
3
Ice & Water Protection
Six feet of ice and water barrier are installed on all edges and valleys of the roof – critical protection against Michigan’s freeze-thaw cycles.
4
Synthetic Underlayment
Synthetic felt is laid to cover the remainder of the roof, providing an additional moisture barrier beneath your shingles.
5
Drip Edge Installation
Aluminum drip edge is installed on the perimeter of the roof to direct water away from fascia boards and into gutters.
6
Shingle Installation
Dimensional asphalt shingles are installed using starter strips, appropriate nails, and cap shingles – all to manufacturer specifications.
7
Flashing & Sealing
Aluminum step flashing is installed on all sidewalls. Chimneys are counter flashed and sealed waterproof. All roof protrusions get ice and water protection with appropriate roofing boots.
8
Ventilation & Final Inspection
Ventilation options include gooseneck bathroom/kitchen vents, bird proof vents, solar vents, ridge vents, and smart vents. Final inspection ensures quality completion.
Our EPDM Rubber Flat Roofing Process
For flat and low-slope roofs, here’s our proven EPDM installation process:
1
Complete Removal
We start by removing the existing flat roof including any fiberboard/isoboard. Our mobile F-550 dump truck handles debris removal efficiently.
2
Deck Inspection & Repair
Decking is fully inspected for rot or damage. All rotten or damaged wood is replaced to create a solid foundation.
3
New Underlayment
All new underlayment (fiberboard or isoboard) is installed using appropriate fasteners to create a smooth, stable surface.
4
EPDM Adhesive Application
EPDM adhesive is applied to the EPDM rubber membrane, fiberboard and/or isoboard to ensure proper bonding.
5
Membrane Installation
The EPDM rubber is rolled out and adhered to the fiberboard or isoboard, creating a seamless waterproof barrier.
6
Seam Installation
All seams are primed and EPDM seam tape is installed. Seams are rolled out to confirm proper adhesion and create watertight joints.
7
Flashing & Termination
Flashing is installed on all protrusions. EPDM rubber is rolled up all sidewalls and chimneys, secured with metal termination bars.
8
Final Inspection
Final inspection ensures all seams, flashing, and terminations are properly installed for long-lasting waterproof protection.
